The member of the Grammy Award-winning group Black Eyed Peas, whose real name is Allan Pineda, has partnered with Ayala Foundation, the Department of Education, Philippine Development Foundation, and two educational institutions—Holy Angel University and Sapang Bato National High School—to help fulfill this personal mission.
Holy Angel University, one of the biggest universities in the Philippines, will be home to the Apl.de.ap Music Library and Studio, which will be furnished with musical instruments, interactive software programs, and various other materials designed to make learning more dynamic and engaging for students. The Music Library and Studio will be accessible to the general public.
Apl.de.ap is also supporting the Sapang Bato National High School, where he had studied before moving to the United States, by partnering with the Filipinas Heritage Library, a division of Ayala Foundation. Through its MyLibrary Program, apl.de.ap will provide the school with a library, computer room, and music room to help raise the academic achievement levels of students and address the high dropout rate in the school, especially among Aetas. Other project components include teacher training modules, a mentoring program, and an endowment fund for the Apl.de.ap Scholarship Program to enable students to finish college.
