The Ligao City Government, in partnership with the Ayala Foundation’s MyLibrary Program, recently held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the future Heritage Library of Ligao City, Albay last April 27, 2011.
Built in the 1930s, the building which currently houses the Ligao West Central Elementary School will be restored and converted into a library and museum as designed by Architect Rosario “Ning” Encarnacion-Tan. Rev. Fr. Niño Tuyo of the St. Stephen Proto-Martyr Parish presided over the blessing and dedication of the shrine.
A time capsule was also lowered at the site by Albay 3rd District Congressman Fernando V. Gonzalez, Ligao City Mayor Linda Gonzalez, Ligao City Vice Mayor Patricia Alsua, Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Edwin Ma-alat, OIC-Chief of Police Antonio Peñafiel, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Evangeline Palencia, and Filipinas Heritage Library Deputy Director Suzanne Yupangco. The time capsule contained the newspaper of the day, photos of the existing building, architectural plans of the proposed building, a copy of the Memorandum of Agreement between the City Government of Ligao and Ayala Foundation, and other memorabilia.
The ceremony was attended by over 100 guests and was capped by a performance from the Ligao East Central School Children’s Choir.
