Feature Writing Workshop
July 22, 27, and 30, 2010
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The Filipinas Heritage Library invites everyone with a knack for storytelling and an interest in discussing current issues and other topics of relevance to learn about the art and craft of Feature Writing. This introductory workshop will focus on the basics of writing a feature story. It will help participants find and develop stories behind various topics, and focus on writing at a more personal level and in a more narrative style. Learn what defines a feature story, its different types and styles. Discover what it takes to get published.

Workshop fee is P 3,500 inclusive of handouts, materials, snacks, and certificate. A down payment of P 1,000 is required to reserve a slot. The deadline for reservations is July 19, 2010. A 5 percent discount will be given to those who pay in full on or before July 14, 2010.

A 10 percent discount is given to Acentive Members

Payments can be given in cash, check , or through credit card.

Professional Travel Writing
July 26, 29, August 3, and 5, 2010
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Have you been to amazing places with great food, interesting people, and the most beautiful sceneries? Do you itch to tell everyone about it and inspire them to experience it for themselves? Traveling is meant to be shared, and what better way to recount the best moments of your trip than to have it published.

Learn the basics of travel writing for various platforms and media with the Filipinas Heritage Library! Understand the difference between print and online writing, and gain insights from travel magazine publishers. Know what it takes to get published by understanding what publishers look for in a material, and get the chance to have your piece published in the Lonely Planet.

Participants will be required to submit a draft of a travel piece on or before July 23, 2010. They will also be provided with a copy of the Lonely Planet upon registration.

The workshop fee is P 4,000 inclusive of handouts, materials, snacks, and a certificate. A down payment of P 1,000 is required for slot reservation. The deadline for reservations is July 21, 2010. A 5 percent discount will be given to those who pay in full on or before July 16, 2010.

A 10 percent discount is given to Acentive Members

English Grammar Improvement and Business Writing
Grammar classes: August 24 and 25, 2010

All sessions are from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Revisit your basic English grammar and learn to write effective business correspondences through this comprehensive and effective course on English grammar improvement and business writing. This course provides tips on common grammar errors and how to overcome them, basic techniques in crafting error-free sentences, a rundown on the various formats and styles employed in crafting effective business correspondences. This regular workshop offered by the Filipinas Heritage Library has helped employees and professionals from different industries and fields significantly improve their writing skills and style.

The workshop speaker, Dr. Amelia Ylagan, is a regular opinion columnist and contributor for arts and culture in Business World. She is a general manager of SAGE Consulting firm and senior research fellow and consultant at the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center. She obtained her Master of Business Administration in Ateneo de Manila and Doctor of Business Administration in UP, Diliman.

The workshop fee is P4,500 for both classes inclusive of handouts, materials, snacks, and a certificate. A down payment of P1,000 is required to reserve a slot. The deadline for reservations is August 18, 2010. A 5 percent discount will be given to those who pay in full on or before August 13, 2010. Payment is non-refundable.

Creative Writing for Beginners

Learn the basic skills and techniques in writing creatively with this writing course for beginners. This workshop will guide participants in tapping their intuition as well as their senses for inspiration, and developing the skills and techniques in creative writing.

The workshop fee is P 5,500.00 inclusive of handouts, materials, snacks, and a certificate. Deadline of reservation is August 13, 2010. A 5 percent discount will be given to those who will pay in full or before August 6, 2010.

Writing Women of the 1920s

The works of Filipino women writers in English began to flourish in the 1920s. In 1925, Paz Marquez Benitez’s “Dead Stars”, widely regarded as the first modern Filipino short story, was published in the Philippines Herald Magazine. According to the Filipino Heritage Series, the publication of the story ushered in “a period of greater development in writing in English by Filipinos.”
