| It is a refreshing change to see any photographic subject without the distraction of colors hence in August 2005, The Alcove Photo Gallery organized the Introduction to the Black-and-White Darkroom workshop to encourage participants to use Black-and-White photography as a new way of seeing.
The workshop was held in Foto Baryo in Tanauan, Batangas, houses a darkroom with enlargers, a big sink, and other tools for printing. A huge photo book collection, vintage cameras, and a few black-and-white photographs on the wall surround the drying area.
Kat Palasi, a recipient of the Asian Cultural Council grant in 1994-1995, facilitated the workshop. She studied at the International Center of Photography in New York. She attended the 10th Project Workshop class of Sam Abell at the Santa Fe Center of Photography in Santa Fe, New Mexico and the 2nd Angkor Photo Festival in Siem Reap, Cambodia in 2004 and 2005 respectively.
