ArtConnection Phase 2 Launched at FHL

The month of May ushered in the second phase of ArtConnection, a teacher-training program designed by the Filipinas Heritage Library and funded by the League of Corporate Foundations.

This phase of the program began with extensive lectures and workshops on the Visual Arts, Music, Literature, and History, followed by a week-long workshop on preparing lesson plans in Makabayan and teaching the subject to elementary pupils. Professor Florentino Hornedo, the distinguished educator and historian, gave a whole-day lecture integrating earlier lectures delivered by Mr Cid Reyes, Prof. Felipe de Leon, Jr., Prof. Rosario Cruz-Lucero, and Prof. Dante Ambrosio to around 60 public school teachers from Metro Manila and Bulacan. Professor Amelia Fajardo and her team from the UP College of Education facilitated the writeshop, intended to train the teachers to develop and deliver lessons in Makabayan that are based on Philippine Studies perspectives and approaches. In continuation, the second phase will also include observation of the teachers applying the revitalized curriculum in actual classroom setting this coming schoolyear and the production of a sourcebook for teachers in 2010.
