FHL Gets Physical With "Romancing the Book"

On 12 July 2014, nearly a hundred book lovers, cultural workers, educators, and students came together to share and listen to intimate stories about the book as a material object. The Filipinas Heritage Library (FHL) once again invited May Jurilla to facilitate a lecture, this time entitled, Romancing the Book, which is the second installment of The Printed Word, a lecture series revolving around the history of the book and other facets related to it. The Printed Word aims to contribute to the promotion of reading and appreciation of the publishing industry and of Filipiniana publications.

The 2nd Printed Word Lecture : Romancing the Book

On July 12, 2014 (Saturday), FHL will once again hold The Printed Word, the lecture series on the BOOK, its history as well as other facets not readily known by the public. The second lecture entitled Romancing the Book will also be facilitated by Ms. Patricia May B. Jurilla, PhD.
 
In Romancing the Book, May Jurilla will discuss the history of making books, the parts of the book, and everything else related to the book as a material object. Select titles from the rare book collection of FHL will be displayed to supplement the talk.

Now Online: The Roderick Hall Collection Annotated Bibliography

The Filipinas Heritage Library (FHL) is pleased to announce that the Annotated Bibliography of the Roderick Hall Collection is now available online at http://rodhall.filipinaslibrary.org.ph.

This growing collection of over 900 books and papers on World War II in the Philippines is compiled by Roderick Hall, with a focus on personal experiences both civilian and military, within the Philippines, during the Japanese occupation.  The collection also includes books written by Japanese authors thus taking into account both sides of the war.   This collection is housed and available for research at the FHL.

FHL launches Filipiniana Online

MAKATI CITY, PHILIPPINES—History is within reach of your fingertips.

Ninety participating librarians, educators and cultural workers from Metro Manila and beyond attended the recently held launch of Filipiniana Online, the Filipinas Heritage Library’s (FHL) digital portal for its rare books, special collections and Rizaliana, last January 22, 2014 at the Ayala Museum.

FHL celebrates Nielson Tower’s 75th year with mini-exhibit

In celebration of the 75th year of Nielson Tower, the Filipinas Heritage Library invites the public to learn more about the building’s colorful past through a mini-exhibit. Entitled “Nielson’s Story,” the mini-exhibit may now be viewed at the library’s basement gallery.
