Storytelling in the Library

The Filipinas Heritage Library celebrated fourteen years of serving and promoting literacy and Philippine art, history, and culture last August 28, 2010. The Filipinas Heritage Library began in 1974 as part of the Ayala Museum through the donation of materials from the Ayala Corporation and the Zobel de Ayala family. In celebration of the centennial of the 1896 Philippine Revolution, the library was given a new home in 1996 in the Nielson Tower, marking the Ayala Foundation’s commitment to providing a knowledge network on the Philippines.

To celebrate its fourteen years of promoting literacy, the Filipinas Heritage Library invited thirty children from Barangay Pitogo, Taguig to participate in a storytelling session. The session was held in the library’s Reading Room at two in the afternoon. Two stories were read to the children: Emang Engkantada at ang Tatlong Haragan and Si Pilandok, ang Bantay Gubat.

Days before the storytelling session, the library staff collected both books and money to be donated to the Barangay Pitogo Day Care Center and to purchase giveaways and snacks for the children. Adarna Publishing also contributed by giving one book per child and by providing the storyteller, Ms. Ada Viebe.
