Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc - "On December 7, 1941, Japanese aircraft bombed Pearl Harbor, leading to a declaration of war by the United States on the Empire of Japan. On December 8, 1941, Japanese aircraft bombed the Philippines, a U.S. protectorate, and a strategic island chain in Japan's planned takeover of Asia. With no means of defense, Manila was left an open city, and the Japanese were free to take prisoners. In early January, all who had Allied citizenship were taken from their homes and interned in prisoner-of-war camps throughout the islands. My mother and her family were interned, first at Santo Tomas, and then at Los Banos, for more than 37 months. This is her compelling story of courage and deliverance."
