- Summary, etc. - "This book, as carefully written by Dr. Domingo Madulid, provides each plant's currently accepted Latin name, original and precise botanical descriptions, and assiduous notes on their medicinal properties as collated from other classic botanical texts of the twentieth century, including those of Eduardo Quisumbing and Elmer D. Merrill. In addition, effort has been made to include sociological, folkloric and ethno-botanical information wherever possible. Thus each entry contains notes on how the plant is commonly perceived--in popular culture, folk medicine, myths and legends, riddles, literature, and music in the Philippines and other countries. Lastly, diligent care has been taken to collate for the reader at least one paragraph of Fray Manuel's writings in its original Spanish, accompanied by a fresh translation shorn of botanical technicalities to make it easily comprehensible. In this manner the great Fr. Blanco speaks directly once again to the modern reader."
