- Notes - A hand loom has the warp coiled evenly upon a beam whose gudgeons are slid in open steps formed in the loom framing. From the beam the threads pass alternately over and under two lease rods, then separately through the eyes of the shedding harness, in pairs between the dents of a reed, and finally they are attached to a cloth roller. Healds are secured above nd below upon shafts and each string is knotted near the middle to form a small eye. These healds will be equally or unequally distributed upon the shafts according to the nature of the pattern to be woven, and the threads will be drawn through the eyes in a predetermined order. The weaver depressed the treadles with his feet and at least one pair of shaft will be lifted above the others, and the warp threads will ascend or descend with the healds to form ashed for the shuttle to be passed through. The shuttle is thrown between the divided warp and caught at the opposite selvage as the creaks rhythmically.
Paoay placed Ilocos Norte on the map with its quality weaving. During the Spanish times, canvasses for sails of galleons came from this town. During the revolution, the uniform of rayadillos were woven by women from Paoay, the treasurer of the Katipunan being Valentin Diaz, a native of this town.
