General Note
  • General note - Fr. Mauricio Ferrero of the Recollect Order constructed this church, known as the San Sebastian Cathedral, in 1755. In the religious history of Negros, the Recollects were the most influential. The Christianization of the island was begun by the Augustinians followed by the Jesuits and later the Recollects. Fray Julian Gonzaga of Barcelona, Spain, was the first parish priest of Bacolod. His church was located at the top of the hill in the settlement believed to be where sitio Kamingawan is now situated.
