| General Note |
- General note - Perhaps the best example of Gothic architecture in the Visayas is the church of Molo in Ilo-ilo. The limestone edifice gives an impression of height due to the rigid vertical lines of its windows, columns and pilasters on the facade which seem to be carried farther upwards by crockets on the gable, and by the finials and spires of the belfries. Construction of the church was started by Fr. Agapito Buenaflor, a native secular priest, probably in the 1870's and continued by his successors, Frs. Agustin de la Peña and Leonardo Lazaro, until its completion towards the end of the 19th century. In 1945 the Americans shelled the twin belfries which were subsequently restored before the decade ended.
