| General Note |
- General note - Visayan churches in the Philippines served a dual purpose: as a temple of worship and as a fort where townspeople sought refuge whenever Muslims pirates came. Hence, the presence of massive buttresses at the sides of a church. Photo shows these buttresses, now covered with moss and clinging vines, which refused to buckle under the destructive power of Da-an volcano.
