  • General note - The Cagsawa belltower stands as mute witness to the violent eruption of Mayon Volcano on February 1, 1814. Rocks and molten lava enveloped the surrounding area which at the time comprised the towns of Cagsawa, Budiaw and Camalig. More than 1,500 persons, who rushed to the church for safety, perished in this catastrophe.
