In 1930, the cathedral was remodeled by Archbishop Gabriel M. Reyes. At the outbreak of war, the cathedral was burned, and during the liberation in Cebu, it was further destroyed by bombs. The reconstruction of the church was completed on time for the celebration of the Cebu archdiocese silver jubilee on June 20, 1960.
