| General Note |
- General note - The church of Guimbal, built by Fr. Juan Campos in the 1760''s, was made of hewn yellow sandstone blocks. Destroyed by the war in 1945 and by the earthquake of 1948, along with the other churches in Panay, it was restored during the following decade. Photo shows the restored church facade-one of the very few proper restoration jobs in the province- containing the stone blocks of the original church. The church of low silhouette has a high pediment (about 3/4 of the nave height) of graceful curved outlines and at the top of which is a small, simulated half-dome. The rigid lines of the engaged columns with acanthus capitals complement the curved lines of the arched door, window and niches containing the images of Saints John the Baptist (left) and Peter (right). The patron saint is Nicolas de Tolentino whose feast day is celebrated on the 10th of September.
