General Note
  • General note - Glittering with gold-leaf painting and elaborate scrolling lines, the reredos behind the main altar makes an arresting focal point in the otherwise drab interior of Baclayon church. It has seven niches flanked by pairs of engaged Corinthian columns. In front is the silver tabernacle (covered with cloth) brought to the parish in 1618 by Fr. Blas del Carmen. Partly seen are paintings of draperies at the back and religious murals on the ceiling; they were done in 1811 by painters from Cebu at the behest of Fr. Miguel de San Joseph. (Also see CH00138)
