General Note
  • General note - Mid-19th century construction is of rocks, adobe and limestone. Windows and portals are in Roman style; the facade is supported by perpendicular piers. The belltower at right was reconstructed, with a wooden upper part. The belltower at the left side had been discarded. Matalom, a 4th class municipality in the fourth congressional district, has an area of 11,098 hectares and a population of 22,047, as of March, 1970. It has 22 barrios and an annual income of P183,199.45 (collection as of June 30, 1971). Its agricultural products are copra, rice, corn, root crops, and abaca. Its main cottage industry is fish net (baling) weaving. Aside from the Matalom river, its other fishing grounds are the Canigao Island, Tuod and Himabaw fishing grounds. Matalom''s tourist spots are: a Lantawan, or old Muslim watchtower, Bahangbang beach, Canigao Island beach, and proposed diggings at Tag-os abandoned cemetery for old antiques.
