| Title Statement |
- Title - An ambulant milkwoman, c1850
|
| General Note |
- General note - A native barefoot milkwoman, lechera, carefully balances a claypot of milk on her head with the help of a coiled piece of cloth while she puffs her Ilocos cigar. She wears a light-colored, wide-necked baro with sleeves folded up just above the wrists. Slung over her right shoulder is an alampay used to wipe the sweat off her face or protect her bare shoulders from the heat of the sun. A striped tapis protects her skirt from getting soiled. A scapular and rosary beads hanging from her neck are indications of her religiosity.
