  • General note - A muscular native clothed only in airy cotton drawers and a piece of cloth around his head peddles drinking water in a large bamboo tube he carries on his soulder. Before 1882, when the Carriedo waterworks system was inaugurated, much of the potable water requirement of the city, especially of its suburbbs, was fetched from wells and streams.
