- General note - From 1900 onwards, radical changes on the mestiza dress were evident. The camisa became wider and freer, and the panuelo was made stiff and upstanding. The panuelo became more of a fashion accessory than a modest cover-all. The skirt grew tighter and sported a train, while the tapis was made smaller in proportion.
