- General note - Portuguese navigator who discoverd the Cape of Good Hope in 1498 and reached India that same year. Portuguese navigator sent on an expedition to India by King Emanuel I in 1497. He made the first voyage from western Europe around Africa to the East. He established Portuguese colonies at Mozambique and Sofala in 1502-03.
