- General note - The sailor from Guetaria Guipuzcoa who joined some of the earlier Spanish expeditoins to Africa. He was also called Elcano. Enlisted in the party of Magellan in 1519, possessing at that time the title of expert sailor. He became master of the "Concepcion", and later captain of the "Victoria" which circumnavigated the globe. Died on the high sea on the Loaisa expedition on August 4, 1526.
