General Note
  • General note - Franciscan who asked King Philip III of Spain to serve in the Philippines. Three times he was prevented by stormy weather from returning to Europe, walked barefoot through India, Persia, Arabia, and Syria, preaching as he traveled and finally reached the court of Philip III where he fell on his knees to obtain a revocation of the decree which had ordered the abandoment of the Philippines. He became the Procurator General in the islands during the time of Governor Alonso Fajardo, 1618-1624. Morga died at sea on December 9, 1619.
