General Note
  • General note - English navigator and privateer who made the first navigation of the world. In 1570-1572, he made 3 expeditions to the west Indies, plundering Spanish towns and ships. In 1595, he commanded an ill-fated expedition to the west Indies with Sir John Hawkins, and died abourd his own ship in 1596. Portrait in the photo is from the painting in the National Portrait Gallery.
