- General note - Scottish businessman in the Philippines, originally from Chryston, Lanarkshire, where he was born in 1862. He came to the Philippines in 1880 and joined their family enterprise, Macleod and Co., one of the leading commercial houses in the Philippines at that time. Fifteen years later he became manager of the Compania Maritima where he served until 1904 before he transferred to Muñoz and Co. (all firms were egaged in shipping). He arranged for the steamer Uranus to transport Gen. Aguinaldo and his group to exile in Honkong in December, 1897. For Distinguised service rendered to the Spanish subjects in the Philippines, he was bestowed the Grand Cross of Isabela the Catholic, with the rank of Knight Commander, by Queen Regent Maria Cristina in 1900.
