  • General note - A private of the "Thurston Rifles" at organization; 1st Sergeant in February 1895; Captain, November 1897; Captain, Co. L, 1st Neb. Regt. U.S.V.I. in May 1898; Wounded in the arm at San Francisco del Monte, on March 25, 1899; Major, 1st Neb Regt. U.S.V. I. , May , 1899; appointed Lietenant, U.S.A. in May 1899 on recommendation for gallantry by President McKinley, but the appointment was declined. He commanded the company during the last two weeks of the exhausting Malolos campaign when the commissioned officers were disabled and unfit for duty.
