- General note - The bishop of Nueva Segovia--as the diocese of Vigan was called--who became acting governor of the Philippines upon the death of Gaspar de Torres in 1745 up to July 20, 1750. With great activity and zeal, he fortified Manila and Cavite, ordered the casting of large cannons and stocked a suitable amount of munitions in the governo''s storehouses and authorized Don Gernimo Itta Salazar to arm his tender, the Santo Domingo. He also quelled a local insurrection in Batnagas. It was in 1749, that Alimudin, sultan of Sulu, arrived in Manila to complain about his younger brother Bantilan who had talen over his throne. Arrechedera died on November 12, 1751.
