| General Note |
- General note - During his term as governor of the Philippines, Basco adopted a policy to make the colony financially self-sufficient. To increase revenues, he tried to improve agriculture, commerce, and industry according to a general economic plan. He encouraged mining, the propagation of silkworms and mulberry trees, the planting of cotton and spices, and the manufacture of textile and porcelain. The government also had a monopoly on the cultivation and sale of certain crops. The painting of Basco shown in this photo is in the Museo Naval de Madrid.
