| General Note |
- General note - Mnemonic ornament in Saracenic (Mohammedan) architecture refers to the decorative feature consisting of Arabic inscriptions taken from Koran, written in the older Kufic style or in the flowing character of later Italic lettering. While Christians have carved images of saints whose lives they wish to emulate, the Moslems have these inscriptions written on the wall or posts to remind them of their teachings of their religion. Inscriptions in the mihrab reads: La Ilaha Ilallahu Muhammad rasulu Slab: "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah." This creed is recited five times daily.
