General Note
  • General note - Volcanic Camiguin island lies in the Mindanao Sea between Bohol and Mindanao, at the northernmost tip of Misamis Oriental. The Y-shaped island with its base tilted southeastward and its nothern extremity forking to form the two ridges of Catarman in the west and Mambajao in the east, occupies an area of 298 square kilometers. Approximately 65 kilometers of road circumscribe the island, passing through its five municipalities; namely, Guinsiliban, Mahinog, Mambajao (the capital), Catarman and Sagay. It has seven volcanoes, two of which are still active, and is otherwise known as the "Island of Fire". Once a municipality of Misamis Oriental, it was made a subprovince in 1957. Photo was taken from the swampy coast of Balingoan, Misamis Oriental, which is often flooded during high tide. It takes some 60 minutes to travel from Balingoan to Camiguin Island by ferry boat.
