- General note - The volcanic eruption of 1871 was preceded by a series of tremors, moderate and violent, accompanying the opening of new vents. There were heavy landslides that sent rolling blocks of stone, destroying trees and plantations along the slopes. The terrified populace fled to the neighboring coasts of Mindanao and Bohol.
