| General Note |
- General note - After 6 or 7 days, the tremors that started on May 1, 18?1 stopped; nevertheless, lava flowed for some 4 years, building up a rugged dome which gained height daily until it finally stood 1,900 feet high on a base nearly a mile in diameter. For some time afterwards, gases and vapors were seen coming out. Photo shows a slope of the newly formed dome, scarred with fissures and covered with sharp massive rocks.
