| General Note |
- General note - Rising some 6,000 feet above sea level, Mount Catarman in Camiguin has two active volcanic cones: Hibok-Hibok, seen at the center, and Volcan Da-an or "Old Volcano" (not seen in photo) which faces the western coast. It is an ancient volcano, judging from its conical form and the nature of its rocks; it has been dormant for centuries until it showed signs of reactivity in 1897. Although there are no written records of its eruption prior to the late 19th century, it is believed that Mount Catarman must have been one of the archipelago''s most active and powerful volcanoes. At the foot of the volcano are the municipalities of Mambajao and Catarman. Photo was taken from the now-abandoned airstrip of Camiguin Island.
