- General note - Photo of watchtower built behind the parish church as a lookout for pirate vessels. It faces the mountain ranges of Negros Oriental, just across Tanong Strait. Santander like all the coastal towns, suffered from piratical incursions which became a constant menace to life and property toward the end of the 17th century. These raids continued into the l8th century.
