In October 1943, when Japanese and Filipino collaborators were planning the installation of the branch of the puppet republic in Cebu, machinegun bullets suddenly splattered on the throng. The guns were emplaced on the hills of Babag, scene of the bitterest battles fought between the Japanese Forces and the Filipino soldiers during World War II.
