- General note - Wide and busy but no longer Spanish in atmosphere, it is the oldest street in the Philippines. Named after Christopher Columbus, the discoverer of America, most of the first-class movie houses and modern establishments of the city are found along this street. During the Revolution, it was bombarded by a Spanish vessel with dire effect. The second World War wiped out the remaining stone and timber structures. It has become a shoppers'' paradise and a banking section as well.
