- General note - City was granted a charter in 1958. An industrial center, it is located along a three-kilometer stretch of reclaimed land off Carmen Bay. It lies 33 kms. north of Cebu City, with an area of 10,725 hectares and a population of 33,722 (1968 census). Administered by a lady mayor and vice-mayor team, it was adjudged the cleanest city in the Philippines in 1968. Its modern industrial complex includes the Republic Drydocks and Slipways, Universal Cement Factory, Assembly Plant for Nissan and Datsun cars and trucks, Durano Mill and Paper Plant and others.
