General Note
  • General note - Formerly Plaza Alfonso XII, situated in front o f the San Jose Parish Church along J. M. Basa Street. Here, on December 25, 1898, in front of the casa real, the Filipino flag was raised for the first time in Iloilo when the city was turned over to the Panay Revolutionary Government. The ceremony was preceded by a victory march of the Ejercito Libertador (Liberation Army) into the city, starting from the present Forbe Bridge spanning the Iloilo River to Plaza Alfonso XII. It was led by General Martin Delgado, commander-in-chief of the Revolutionary army; Roque Lopez, president of the Consejo de Estado Federal de Visayas; followed by Generals Venacio Concepcion, Adriano Hernandez, Pascual Magbanua, Angel Corteza and Perfecto Poblado, Colonel Quintin Salas and Maj. Nicolas Roces who were all on horse-back. Trailing behind were some 2,000 soldiers clad in rayadillo uniforms. Played by the 72nd Regimental band was the "Marcha Libertador" composed by Col. Posidio Delgado. The day before, on December 24, 1898, Spanish Governor Diego de los Rios surrendered the city to the mayor, Vicente Gay.
