General Note
  • General note - San Pablo, before it was given its present name in honor of the patron saint (St. Paul the Hermit) was known as Sampalok, a mere barrio. It was converted into a municipality of Batangas in 1647 and in 1881, transferred to Laguna. In 1926 the first clamor to make it a city was turned down by Gov. Gen. Leonard Wood. Finally on May 7, 1940, by virtue of Commonwealth Act No. 52 it was made a city and inaugurated on Jan. 2, 1941 with Potenciano Malvar as its first Mayor.
