| General Note |
- General note - Decorations of bamboo and paper buntings called lumba, welcome pilgrims from Mecca. Every year, during the month of fasting, Many Muslim Filipinos join the pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina in fulfillment of their religious duty. Maranaw pilgrims leave around the middle of January of each year. About 95% of the pilgrims barely have enough money to pay for their round-trip fare costing some P2,000; and have to pay the muta-wiff, a fee imposed by the Saudi Arabian government through the Philippine National Bank. Around 10,000 relatives and friends from outlaying towns and barrios gather to welcome them. The pilgrims are already hadjis, and as such they highly respected members of the community.
