| General Note |
- General note - Side view of Intramuros showing the moat in foreground, c.1905. The stone walls where built c.1590-1595. The old quarter had gridiron-laid streets, plazas, the Governor''s Palace, twelve beautiful churches and imposing two-storey Spanish Colonial houses. In 1945, it was reduced to shambles by U. S. artillery to destroy Japanese who had made their last stand there. Intramuros was restored after the implementation of a cultural development program to preserve the remaining sections of the walls and the six gate. Photo reproduced in 1971.
