| General Note |
- General note - Centuries ago, roving merchants established a little colony in the place now called Cadiz Viejo. This settlement was located at the river called Hitalon and later renamed Cadiz, owing to its similarity with the port in Spain. In 1878, Cadiz became an independent municipality from Saravia, its mother town, and the first gobernadorcillo appointed was Antonio Cabahug, an immigrant from Mandaue, Cebu. During the government of the cantonal state, Jose Lopez Vito was elected president. In the first post war election of 1952, Joaquin Ledesma was elected mayor. The charter of Cadiz was filed by Congressman Armando C. Gustilo in 1966 and it was passed on May 15, 1967.
