| General Note |
- General note - Market scene in Canlaon, a region known as the rice granary of Negros Oriental. Business is brisk on Thursdays and Sundays, market days. Farmers sell their products to dealers who take these to Bacolod, Dumaguete, or Cebu to be sold again at a good profit. The city, made the summer capital of the Visayas and Mindanao because of the similarity of its climate to Baguio, lies more than 3,000 feet up on the eastern slope of Canlaon volcano, 166 kms. from Dumaguete and 96 kms. from Bacolod. The founder of Canlaon was Don Jose de la Vina who in 1896 rode daily the slopes of the volcano on a white-manned horse from dawn to dusk. One after the other, the bukidnon or mountain dwellers, became his tenants. President Roxas issued Executive Order No. 19, on October 11, 1946, creating the municipality of Canlaon; the city was created by R.A. 3445 in May, 1961 at the time of President Garcia.
