- General note - Photo of postwar building. Negros Oriental is the eastern part of the province formerly called Buglas. The province was under the jurisdiction of Cebu. In 1734 the entire island of Negros was made a separate military district. Negros was elevated to a politico-military province in 1856 and in 1890 the island was split into two politico-military units, namely Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, which included the island of Siquijor, formerly a part of Bohol. Civil government was finally instituted in Negros Oriental on May 1, 1901.
