| General Note |
- General note - Photo shows the quarter-mile long concrete wharf of Mauban and its shore, scene of the battle during the Japanese landing in December 1941. Mauban was founded at the foot of a malauban tree, on July 14, 1647. Nestling at the base of low hills, it faces Lamon Bay and the islands of Cabalete, Alabat and Polillo to the far north. This town was covered by tidal waves in 1934, which washed away the watchtower guarding the shore. An earlier catastrophe, an earthquake in 1880, toppled down its stone church and buried alive 3 children who were swallowed by ground fissures.
