| General Note |
- General note - Alzina (Historia de las Islas e Indies de Bisayas... 1668) writes that the colonizers came from Nueva EspaƱa in search of the Cabo del Espiritu Santo in Samar. The cape was so named by its European discoverers to commemorate the day when it was found (it was the feast of the Holy Spirit). Originally called "Magsasanga" by the natives, a high mountain on the cape branches into two other peaks, one runs to the south up to a point which forms a channel with the island of Mindanao and another which faces Manila. The channel at the north used to be in the itinerary of the ships coming from Acapulco. It is found at the northeastern tip of the island.
