- General note - Probably Samar''s chief tourist attraction is a 500-hectare wilderness in the southwestern part of the island which was declared a national park in 1935. Several waterfalls, cascades, caverns, tunnels and springs situated within the area attract tourists to this park. Sohoton is reached from the town proper of Basey an hour''s ride on a motorboat. Negotiating the Sohoton River some 25 kilometers upstream, one passes by sharp limestone cliffs which line both sides of the river when approaching the park area. Photo shows one such limestone formation, honeycombed with shallow caverns.
