General Note
  • General note - From a visita of Meycauayan called Catanghalan, Polo was established as an independent town in 1623. The place got its name from the Tagalog word "pulo" (island) as the site was then surrounded by intersecting creeks and rivulets. Fray Juan Tarancon, OFM, the first parish priest, administered the town which was established in what is now known as Barrio Villa. Lying at 14° 42'' 4" latitude. Old Polo is bounded by Meycauyan at the north Caloocan at the southeast, Malabon at the south and Obando at the northeast. Since the town''s establishment in 1623, Old Polo had been partitioned twice; first in 1753 when it yielded its western tip (Barrio Catanghalan) to what would become the town of Obando; second in 1916, when the neighboring town of Caloocan annexed parts of the barrios of Bagbaguin and Bignay. On July 21, 1960, by Executive Order no. 401 of Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, the old municipality of Polo was divided into two, giving birth to the new town of Valenzuela (named in honor of its leading son, Dr. Pio Valenzuela). Less than three years later, the old town of Polo was circumscribed by virtue of the Executive Order no. 46 issued by Diosdado Macapagal on September 11, 1963.
