General Note
  • General note - Another photo of the capitol building. Surigao del Norte has 29 towns, 12 of which are in the mainland. The rest are found in the offshore islands of Dinagat, the largest in area; Siargao, the most populous and consisting of 8 municipalities; Bucas Grande and other smaller ones like Hipdok, Nonoc, Zaragosa, Sumilom, Basul, San Jose and Masapilid. Surigao was once a part of the old province of Caraga that included the provinces of Davao and Agusan. In 1571 it was occupied by the Spaniards, with Pedro Navarro as Governor. Juan Gonzales became its first appointed Filipino governor after the last Spanish governor, Ricardo Vision, left the country in 1899.
